7.9.12 TOWER WARS

Alright, Deviants.  I've been very busy over the 6 month hiatus, and now I have some really exciting stuff to tell you.  What started as a side project in the after-hours with a few coworkers and friends about two years ago has become a full-fledged indie game title for pc now entering its first day of BETA.  I'm just a little stoked here.  The game is Tower Wars; it's our twist on the classic tower defense genre, with some offense and quite a bit of lovely looking art and quirky steampunk character packed into it!

I have the honor of being one of the primary concept artists who got to work on this, so I will be posting some of my pre-viz and promotional work on the project here on DA (whom I have grossly neglected).  :p

Now here's the good part!  Closed beta began today on Steam.  I still have beta keys FOR GIVING AWAY, should you like to be a part of our closed beta test group!  If you are interested, please comment here in this journal saying you would like a key, and I will send one your way (as long as keys still remain--- they are going FAST).   We devs are in and out of the chat and game lobbies daily, so come and play with us.   Do eet!

Check out www.towerwarsgame.com to find out more and get acquainted with the project!

I will leave you with this:   Tower Wars Trailer

Cheerio!

1.20.12  Baaaaaaaaaaack!

Yes.  I know.  I always leave you hanging, and then abandon my Deviantsite for MONTHS on end.  Can you ever forgive me?  I have a good reason for being gone this time, I promise.  Check it out.

I GOT MARRIED YOU GUYS!!!  :D

A little crazy?  Yes?  I think so!  I was beginning to wonder if I ever would settle down, but... I found the right guy, and well...  we were made for eachother.  :)  And that's really it in a nutshell.  I'm enjoying being a wife and keeping a household together (even if it's just the two of us for now).  Well okay... we have a corgi puppy, two kitties, and a goldfish.  They're our kiddos.  Needless to say, it's like having a full-fledged family; including the toys strewn all over the floor and the bit of food stuck under the table.  As for little human beings?  We're waiting a couple of years.  :p  But all in all, I am extremely blessed.  Shameless plug goes out to my close friend Cassie Fuertez, a fellow deviant and artist who shot a fantastic collection of photos at our wedding!

I've been busy, guys (aside from getting hitched)!  I've got big news and lots to update.  This past year marked my fourth year anniversary working at Supervillain Studios, and led into the release of our iOS title Order UP!  I'm totally stoked about it, because much of the work I do is either canned or never picked up and this time it's actually getting out there!  If you've got an iphone or an ipad, please make my day and check it out here.  Now, I know some of you are thinking: Oh God, a cooking game?  Just hold the skepticism and give it a try, because it's fun and quirky and maybe even a little bit addicting.  Plus, I worked on it.  That makes it instant-awesome.  ;p

And, there's another one!  I teased you months back (ashamedly almost a year ago) with some chatter about an iOS scrolling game, and... well, it's FINALLY OUT.  Ever heard of Mega Jump?  That's the one!  Well I had the pleasure of painting the background for the Aeria world update, and I would be thrilled if you played it.  :D  There's more info about it on the Get Set Games website here.  If you'd like a little peek at some production artwork and finished in-game screenshots, check out my blog at www.etoli.blogspot.com  GASP!  I actually updated it... WITH ART.  Imagine that!

Is that enough blabber?  I think so...definitely enough!  I hope that I'll be able to be a little more prescient here, (like the good old days) but the hubby and I are planning a move in about a month and a half, so life is going to be a little topsy-turvy once more (please God let it end!)  But the hope is to find a more permanent place where we can settle in and perchance start a family... and get back to doing more personal artwork!  :)  And with that, I'll leave you with a couple of new pieces in the gallery...

Missed you guys!

2.23.11  Back

Um... yeah.  It's been a while.  I missed you guys!  The rumors are true, I do indeed have a manfriend.  And yes, I did drop off the face of the earth for several months and I am horribly ashamed for not updating any of my art... granted, much of which was stuff I couldn't show anybody yet anyways, but still.  PLEASE FORGIVE ME!
It was a crazy year gone past, that's for sure.  My best friend's wedding, moving, a trip to Greece, considering the east coast, moving AGAIN, general craziness at work, well... you get the picture.  I was so ready for a peaceful start to the new year, but then my apartment flooded and the power went out, so I had to consider the truth: sometimes life is just crazy!  But, it's good to be back.  I've got a LOAD of industry work I'm in the process of sorting through to put on my blog, which is the place I've kind of settled on designating for my strictly professional work; so stay posted!

Did I miss anything cool?  DA got a little fancy with all of their user-customization features, didn't they...  *headscratch*

P.S.  Did anyone else enjoy Fable 3?  :D

**EDIT**  Huuuuuuuur.... 26 notes 13,536 messages?!!  Omg...  I have work to do.  I'll try to get back to everyone!

Journal Entry: Tue Jul 20, 2010, 5:41 PM

Gaaaah, it crept up on me!  I've been so busy I nearly forgot it was coming...

I'm going to be there tomorrow for preview night, so if you see me, say hi!  I like doing sketchtrades and just meeting new people in general, so if you catch me wandering around the exhibit hall (where I will be wandering for most of the day), I'll be looking something like this:

See you there!

Comicon: Are You In?

Journal Entry: Tue Mar 9, 2010, 6:52 PM

The San Diego Comic Convention is coming. . .  I know it's still months away, but man it's almost SOLD OUT.  If you're an industry professional, registration started today!  Who says no to free Comicon admission?!  DO EET.  I went for the duration of the whole thing last year, and it was a blast.  Definitely exhausting, but there's so much good stuff to do and see, not to mention awesome artists to meet and mingle with.

Who's going, and would anyone want to do a sketch trade?  (this usually involves me enthusiastically thrusting my sketchbook into the victim's arms once I have seized theirs and encouraging them to draw in it somewhere despite their confused and horrified expressions).

I think I'll be there just on preview night this year. . . I've gotta save my vacation time for traveling.

Reboot

Journal Entry: Thu Feb 25, 2010, 1:59 PM

Wow. . . okay.  Where to begin?

I'm. . .  I'm ALIVE.  I realize that it's been over a year since I've posted a journal, and almost as long since I've put up any new art before the Adventure painting.  I do have a good excuse, though. . . several!  I swear!  I was . . . off. . . HAVING ADVENTURES.  I've also been learning how to cook, and do the dishes, and keep a tidy apartment, ie: be domestic, how to say no to persistent men, how to save money for traveling, and how to NOT SPEND IT. . . (this is so much harder than you always fantasize it will be)  I have a good source of motivation though; I really want to go to Greece this summer and New Zealand the following year!  XD

In a nutshell though, life got busy.  There were some rough spots last year and some incredibly joyful moments (like my lifelong best friend getting engaged). It literally took me 3 months to adjust to living in my own apartment and getting everything settled, but the satisfaction of being the queen of my own "household" now (including pernicious cat and snake)is so worth the effort that was involved.  I lived by myself for a while, from June when I moved in till just about a month ago when :iconcleverblue: came in to sleep on my couch and eat my food keep me company and share my roof!  Cassie is awesome, she keeps me social and artistically motivated.  ^__^ (You know I love you!)  She finally brought me over to the dark side where I fashioned a blogspot.  Myesss.  It doesn't have much now, but it'll get some love.  I could go on and on with all of the miscellaneous events and exploits of the last year, but I won't bore you.  Let's get to some art!  (Seriously. . .there is a backlog that will take me another year to actually organize and post)  I have been making a. lot. of art; most of it professional, some of it personal, but I have been making it nonetheless.  You officially have permission to poke me with a sharp stick until you see some of it.

In the meantime, here are some sketches!

A Pearl of Wisdom for Men

Journal Entry: Sat Feb 14, 2009, 3:27 PM
"How does a woman love a man?

. . . In an act of stunning vulnerability she takes life's greatest risk-- offering her unveiled beauty to him, opening herself up to him in every way.

Femininity is what arouses his masculinity.  His strength is what makes a woman yearn to be beautiful.  It's that simple, that beautiful, that mysterious, and incredibly profound."

-John and Stasi Elredge

Gentlemen, I highly recommend you read a book called Captivating by the above co-authors.  If you have ever found yourself confused and genuinely desperate to understand what it is that woman want in their heart of hearts, you will do yourself a great good by reading this book.  In honor of it being Valentine's Day, I'll leave you with a last little insight.

" . . . every woman in her heart of hearts longs for three things: to be romanced, to play an irreplaceable role in a great adventure, and to unveil beauty.

That's what makes a woman come alive."

Happy Valentine's Day!

The Hunt Begins

Journal Entry: Mon Feb 9, 2009, 1:25 PM
Ugh.

Has it really been since before Christmas that I last posted a journal?  . . . wow.  I feel so guilty!  I've abandoned you all!  *wails*  Can you forgive me?

There's been an aweful lot of stuff happening since the new year began it seems, but then really not much at all, either.  Know the feeling?  Well I've been in a bit of a funk lately I guess you could say.  That uncomfortable, stagnant state of artist's block. Every artist has them, at random, without warning.  You loose the energy to do that cool painting, the motivation slips for starting up those commissions, your focus is absorbed with the concerns of modern adult life. . . you get the picture.  But you know what? It's all good.  Things turn around, even when you aren't expecting them too.

So I mentioned adult life. . . I think the proper term here is survival.  Have you ever thought that maybe you would have done better in a different century?  That living a simple life with so many fewer complications than you are forced to deal with these days is your style?  Yeah, that's me.  XD  I just watched Pride and Prejudice last night--you know, the most recent one; and I can't help but wish that had I lived in the English countryside of better times and was married to a handsome gent of admirable integrity.  That'd be the life, wouldn't it?  Guess I'll have to settle for the hustle and bustle of single living in the Orange County suburbs, instead.

I'll cut to the chase.  I'm moving out!

I think I may have talked about wanting to do this a long time ago. . . like maybe a year ago when I first started working in the game industry.  Well, now it's time to do it.  I love my family dearly, yet at 23 and my debt paid in full, I feel like it's time for the next chapter in life.  I'm hunting for an apartment.  There will be much rejoicing and silly dancing when I find the right one. . . maybe a party, even.  Move-out date is tentatively set for mid-June this year.  Bring it!

New art is coming soon  . . .I promise.

**EDIT**
CSS is broken, apparently. . . FAIL.

Votery Doom Day

Journal Entry: Tue Nov 4, 2008, 2:11 PM

Hey evr'body, I hope you had a fun Halloween with little to no loss of limb!  I myself had a bit of fun in the costuming department and got a taste of the prego side of life for one evening; but because I'm slow and lazy, I've not yet gotten pictures as such to show you.  I blame it all on Fable 2. XD
I did, however, manage to straighten up my CSS layout into something I'm happy with for the time being.  Lesson learned, I   am not, will not, ever be a programmer.  Something a little new: I've added links to my youtube, myspace, and linkedin accounts  to get networking with my fellow artisterly people, so drop on by and connect if you so please.  And look, new art!  I'm on a roll today.

Also, today is presidential election day for us American citizens, as many of you are probably already aware.  For those of you who can, I encourage you to seize your civil duty and choose your doom!  I mean vote!

I have to admit. . . I'm a little concerned. Does anyone else feel like they are choosing the lesser of two evils?

Animation

No, I didn't get a new job. . . hahahaha, could you imagine?  XD

What's really going down this weekend then?  Totoro Forest Project, that's what!  And there was no way I was going to miss it.  So this Friday, I'll be making the trek up north with traveling companion Cleverblue  to visit Pixar Animation Studios where the auction event is to be held.  This is really a fascinating project for those of you who may be Studio Ghibli fans, particularly of My Neighbor Totoro.  See what it's all about here.

And I've never been to San Francisco (where we're staying), so this is going to be an adventure!  Wish us luck and excitement!  (safety too, would be good)

Wow, well it seems like so much has been going on these summer days, I've almost lost track of all the stuff that's gone down since I last caught everyone up.  ComiCon!  I'll start with that.  ComiCon this year was awesome; I had the chance to meet a lot more deviant artists and industry professionals this year.  Border Crossings was warmly received at the con, which was a real encouragement.  Buuuut, after some deal talks, I decided to step down from illustrating the graphic novel in light of the time constraints and the stress involved. . . it would have been madness to try and fit that in with my full time work as it is now!  I plan to return to graphic novels and short one-shots on my own time, when I'm ready. :)

In other news, Scalawags won first place in the Orange County Fair's Animation Celebration!  This was an absolute surprise, as I had been told that it was merely a viewing gallery, and not a competition. . . caught me off guard, that's for sure!  Now what am I ever to do with a World of Warcraft war chest for a grand prize?  Seems counter-productive to paying off my student loans . . .  :p  Money plz?
Hehe but seriously, thank you OC Fair and congratulations to the Scalawags team!

Sigh. . . so with all of this traveling, and summer adventure, and social blossoming, and growing up, I wonder if I'll ever come around to finishing the Halo fiction I started well over a year ago.  I know there are some who have been patiently waiting all this time for a new chapter, and I feel a little wedge of guilt for not returning to it.  I've come to the conclusion that I am one of those writers who can't work on an update by update basis.  It will never be finished if I do, and that's the way it's been with all of my previous attempts at fanfiction (with the exception of The Secret Path).  But I've realized that with Verisimilitude, I've dug a deep well of possibilities that's going to take alot to work  through and make it something good.  And I want it to be good.  So no. . . it's not being abandoned; simply, it is being worked on until its completion, and only then will it be ready to read.  And it's probably going to take me a good amount of time to do it.  So as much as I appreciate the pokes, it won't get you a chapter any faster!  :D

Stop kicking puppies!

I hope you can forgive me if you sent me a note or a comment AGES ago and I still haven't replied. . . I'm getting through this stuff very slowly.  I've been spending lots o' time hanging out with friends and family enjoying this awesome summerness and finally getting around to doing things like play with the henna powder I bought from the sooq in Canada!  I even got adventurous over the 4th and discovered that bullfrogs taste delicious.  Ohhh, and Avatar started back up again today. . .  o w o  It makes my inner animator gleeful and fuzzy.  Otherwise, I'm always curled up on the couch after work deeply absorbed in the current book I've chosen for pleasure reading.

STUFF.

Mon Jun 30, 2008, 11:24 PM
  • Mood: Yearning

Oooooh, maaaaan. . . it has been a little while.  I will never cease to be amazed at how suddenly and voraciously life will rear up and consume one's will to relax and keep up on things.

What's the deal?  No art?  No fiction?  Well, truth be told I've been lacking in my motivation to finish things these past months after feeling overwhelmed in the aftermath of one thing after the other.  XD  The art is there and waiting. . . pages of story have been written. . . ideas have been scrawled into my moleskin notebook. . .it's all just been gently set aside again and again as I've dabbled in life's distractions.
I detest the thought of boring you with the intricate details. Rather, I'd look to comment on the difficulties of discovering what one is truly looking for in a soulmate; the patience it takes to care for a baby animal; the hard, shameful lesson learned in drinking too much and too fast; the potential frustration of simultaneously working full-time and freelance; the utter glee of hitting the waves again. . .

Yeah.  In a nutshell.  X3

On top of this is prep for Comicon, my fellow artists.  Who will be there?  Will you?  I will!  Cleverblue and I will be there all four days, accompanied here and there by many of our friends who will be going a day or two.  I've actually industry-ish things to attend to this year, as the graphic novel that I have been working on a pitch for with my partner, writer Christian Sager, is picking up interest with publishers. . . *EPIC GLEE*  I only wish I had more time for this sort of thing.  But yes!  Preview art on that soon, so you can see why I've been hiding away from all of you people these past months.  Lol.

Let's see. . . movies!  The animated stuff out right now is lovable.  I recommend Kung Fu Panda and WALL-E for your viewing enjoyment this summer.  I think I liked them nearly equally, but for very different qualites.

Mostly funny.  Stunning 2d animation segments.  MOAR PLZ.

Charming, engaging, and injected with personality.

You might be curious about that baby animal I mentioned earlier.  He was a baby sparrow named Monkey, and I raised him for three weeks until he was able to fly.  Sadly, he didn't make it through that last heat wave we had. . .  *sigh*  It bothers me still.  He sure was a sweetheart, though.

Oh, and before I leave to try and make sense out of my poor, abused, and messy DA-ness, we went to Renfaire over the Spring.  Twice!  I had fun putting together the Corsair Gypsy outfit this year:  [link]
It was hot this year.  But. . . perhaps not as hot as it's going to be out on Lake Gregory this 4th of July. XD  Have fun and take care over the holiday you guys!

Oh God. . . my inbox.  It is exploding.

My Dear Friend

Sun Apr 13, 2008, 12:23 PM
  • Mood: Miserable
I would like to share something with all of you.

It has been a different sort of week.  I had missed a call from my friend Sid early Wednesday evening before I had gotten out of work,  and thought it was strange,  knowing he usually waited to call me until later in the evening . . . and I got an uneasy but excited gut feeling.

Many of you who have been Sid's friend or have come to know him here on DA as 5thanamoly know that he has been waiting a very long time for a new heart and lungs.  When I spoke to him that evening, it was with the wonderful news that they had finally found organs that would fit him.  He had been mineature golfing just the hour before--had just then gotten off of the jet and was on his way to the hospital.  You know him--couldn't have been more calm and peaceful in all of it, with that cheerful sort of hope, the way he's always been.  He was hoping it wasn't another false alarm, but that if he didn't call the next day, that it would be good sign.  He laughed at the perfect timing of it all; he'd be missing the Comicon this year, but he'd sure be getting his hands on MetalGear while he was in recovery.
See you in three months, he said.

I told him to hang in there.

I could only ask God's peace and His Will when I learned that he was still bleeding on Friday.  It was yesterday that I learned the surgery had claimed his life.

It is difficult. . . words seem trite.  The shock and grief of loosing a friend is very real and at the same time like a dream, as though I'll be hearing his voice again, and I don't know how to describe that.  If you knew Sid, then you know the measure of his faith and the strength of the life he lived in spite of his health.  I admired him for that.  He told me he wasn't afraid to die, having lived so long in its shadow; but even more, knowing that if his body were to fail him, he would be with the Lord.  And it was something that we smiled and laughed over.

There is the joy of knowing that he is with the Father now, and that alone brings peace to me; but please. . . be praying for Sid's family right now. . . and for his mother.

Sid. . .  you inspired us all.

Finally. . . FINALLY got around to pulling up the waiting word doc for Verisimilitude and doing the second-pass read through and edit.  Good news is, it means the first chapter of the story is up tonight!

The ah. . .persistent poking of you few who have been particularly watchful of its progress has truly helped me stay on target with getting the handwritten stuff typed up and tidied for the general public to read.  :3  As always, it's getting updated on the New Harvest database website before it gets posted here, so you can always be sure it will follow suit shortly here on DA.

I had a lengthy chunk developing as I got deeper into the introduction, and in the end I decided to cut into it and start with a prologue chapter.  You may find it a bit cryptic, but I'll fill you in soon no worries.  That chunk that I cut into is now composing the introduction into the second chapter.

Anywho, I'm going to keep submitting these chapters to my scraps section until I finish each book (and get a cover art piece painted), so read and enjoy!   [link]

If I may suggest for further reading. . .  Choco has updated Vestige with a fantastic new chapter.  You're missing out if you haven't read her stuff.  Go!

Yep, it got me.  It got me goooood.  Er, bad.

Whatever is getting passed around work is now munching contentedly at my brain, and I'm sure my officemates gave a sigh of relief when I left early for home today.  >__<   Bleeeaaah.  Full relapse is not fun.
I feel bad for not having ansered my phone for like. . . the past week, so I hope you who know who you are can forgive meeee.  My throat is quite thoroughly keel-hauled and incapable of anything but a gutteral grinding sound for the time being.

The good news is, this Genacol stuff hasn't slowed me down so much as to not be able to work on things like Verisimilitude and this ah. . .Valentines painting thing that's coming up alarmingly fast.  It's all moving very slow, but it's still coming along.  :D

Fellow LOSTards. . . OMGTHEPLOTTHICKENS.

Buuuuh. . .  okay, I go drip on the couch now.  I mean, write some more.  :p

Thoughts

I'm broke but I'm happy
I'm poor but I'm kind
I'm short but I'm healthy, yeah
I'm high but I'm grounded
I'm sane but I'm overwhelmed
I'm lost but I'm hopeful baby

What it all comes down to
Is that everything's gonna be fine, fine, fine
'Cuz I've got one hand in my pocket
And the other one is giving a high five

I feel drunk but I'm sober
I'm young and I'm underpaid
I'm tired but I'm working, yeah
I care but I'm restless
I'm here but I'm really gone
I'm wrong and I'm sorry baby

And what it all boils down to
Is that no one's really got it figured out just yet
